WORKPLACE TRENDS #1: MOBILE JOB SEEKERS

WORKPLACE TRENDS #1: MOBILE JOB SEEKERS

Amazingly, 89 percent of job seekers report that they use a mobile device to seek jobs. Moreover, nearly half (45%) say they use their mobile devices specifically to seek jobs at least once a day. With so many job seekers using a mobile device to search for a job, it is essential for employers to focus on this preferred method of recruitment to create an ideal candidate experience, and garner savvy employees.

DON’T JUST BE MOBILE-FRIENDLY

Don’t let your IT department off the hook quite yet.  Having a company career site that is “mobile-friendly” is not enough.  This simply means it is viewable on a mobile device.  This generally consists of hard-to-read text that the user has to pinch and zoom and stretch beyond the width of the phone screen.

Extensive scrolling, links that are too small to even touch – overall, an unpleasant experience.  It is time to invest in creating a career site that is optimized for the mobile user.  Two out of five candidates say that their view of a company is negatively impacted if a career site is not mobile optimized.

SIMPLIFY THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Now that your career site is mobile optimized, allow the job seekers to view and apply directly from their smartphones or tablets. With 27% of job-seekers expecting to complete the application process from a mobile device, it is essential that a simplified, easy to read, easy to complete job application is utilized.

This also means that lengthy behavioral and personality quizzes should be eliminated. Create an easy-to-use application that job seekers can complete without having to be in front of a computer. A well-versed recruiter or HR Specialist doesn’t need as much information as you might think to select qualified candidates that are ready for a first interview.

SAY YES TO THE VIDEO INTERVIEW

You’ve come this far, so let’s go even further and embrace the video interview. There are video interviewing platforms like Zoom, HarQen, SparkHire or WePow that are specifically designed for the job seeker on-the-go.

These video interviews allow job-seekers to showcase their skills early on in the interview process. While this shouldn’t necessarily replace the in-person interview, it is an excellent method to initially screen job-seekers.

TAKE IT UP A NOTCH

For many of us, our smartphone or tablet is an extension of our arm. That is not hard to believe when you consider that people between the ages of 18 and 36 check their smartphone an average of 43 times a day. If you really want to be on the cutting edge, take recruiting a step further and send out job opening notifications via text message to job-seeker subscribers. This is the fastest way to ensure your job postings are being seen.

Currently, only 20% of Fortune 500 companies have a mobile-optimized career site. Regardless of the size of your company, you can have a competitive edge with job-seekers by upping your game with mobile optimization. With more people constantly moving around, working on-the-go, it’s time to start promoting opportunities in the best possible way.
